The ride there took about 2 1/2 hours (about 100 kms) and had (according to the driver) 270 topes-speed bumps. Between those topes and a curvy mountainous road it was a long drive. The scenery was magnificent and while driving through the many small towns there was evidence of rebellion seething beneath the surface with spray painted signs of the rebellious group here
The pyramid is HUGE at 243 feet (the tallest in Mesoamerica according to the guide but it has some very close rivals such as Tikal). We had 2 hours to spend there so we climbed to the top and walked around. Initially we didn't have a guide but with 30 minutes of time left before we had to leave we decided to find one to get a 30 minute talk. Super interesting and informative! Too bad we didn't have him for the full 2 hours
We stopped in the nearby town of Ocosingo for some food purchased from a traditional food market. I couldn't risk eating anything but Caro had some avocados
About half way back we stopped at a beautiful waterfall. Caro and I hiked to the top but the better views were from the bottom

We got back to town about 6 P.M. and went for supper at a nice restaurant beside the zocalo. Both Caro and I are finding the food here not that great. Perhaps it is because the food in the rest of Mexico is much spicier.Credit cards are not accepted much here. We will have to get to a bank in a couple of days for cash.
Tomorrow we have a 4 AM (!) hotel pick up and we will go back the same road we were on today for a 4 hour drive to three sites including Palenque and Aguas Azules
