Saturday night in San Cristobal

Lots of fun tonight with hundreds of people in the Zocalo. We got there shortly after my last post and immediately noticed a crowd near the protester's camp. It turned out to be a folkloric group doing traditional dances that we go out of way to see. They were beautiful to watch and I took some video. A short while later the cathedral outdoor lights were turned on  so we moved over there for photos. Afterward a large "society" wedding finished inside. The bride and groom came out the main doors of the cathedral to hundreds of spectators (including us) snapping photos. As Caro continued enjoying the wedding activities I walked a few metres away to continue watching the dance group as they were about to do dances from Veracruz which includes a favourite of mine,"La Bamba". Suddenly there was an almighty BOOM, BOOM, BOOM as fireworks were lit off about 20 feet behind me (I kid you not!). All the locals had seen the fireworks being setup but this Canadian was too busy watching  dances. I was the protection for the locals getting hit as they has all wisely left me standing between them and the explosions! I QUICKLY moved to safer area and I enjoyed the fire works exploding 35-30 feet directly above my head;got video of it.

Caro and I then went for a drink and while in the bar a fellow came in selling roses so I, ever the romantic, bought one for Caro as tomorrow is the second of our two anniversary dates.

Happy Anniversary dear!
