We caught our 10 AM bus and traveled for the next 6 hours through a combination of superhighways and twisty secondary tiny highways bordered by jungle greenery encroaching onto the road. The scenery was magnificent with lots of steep hills and beautiful jungle trees. It was worth the drive (and we are thankful a professional was doing the driving). Too bad I couldn't get any decent photos. We had loved San Cristobal but it was time to move on.
We stepped off our air conditioned bus into a city where eggs could be fried on the street. WOW is it hot and humid!
We caught a taxi to the Hyatt Hotel(!!) at about 4 PM. The Hyatt costs only $60/night (!) which is cheaper than our last location in San Cristobal, however it soon became clear why. This city is not touristy and our visitation to the downtown area was underwhelming. This appears to be a working city and doesn't have much for tourists except where we are going tomorrow (and the reason I included this city on our trip). Tomorrow we are going to see a museum that has large stone heads made by the Olmeca people. Photos tomorrow!
After a dip in the pool to cool off we had a nice supper which included tacos el pastor and a side order of cebollitas. Mmmm Yummy!
