We had tickets on Interjet to Tuxtla Gutierrez and arrived at 12:10. Because we had carry only we were in the taxi to our hotel in Chiapa de Corzo in about 5 minutes. A thirty minute ride later we were at our cool little hotel. It has a wonderful garden and a small pool.
We were able to walk to the riverside location for the Sumidero canyon boat ride ticket purchase and by 2 P.M. we were on a 2 hour 20 minute SPECTACULAR sightseeing adventure. This canyon is truly amazing and with our boat driver being very observant we saw a large crocodile (Caro's Nikon camera photo is a must see) as well as some monkeys that he had spotted and stopped nearby so we could take photos. The canyon walls are extremely sheer and our driver/captain stopped at one point stating that the canyon wall at that point was 1 kilometer high. I couldn't get a photo as the sun was at the top of the wall (gives you an idea that the wall was very high!).
One huge negative is the massive amounts of plastic garbage in the river. I knew from my previous reading of the place that this was a problem however there were quite a few boats on the river collecting this garbage although I suspect it is an ongoing problem as Mexico does not recycle plastic bottles.
I should mention that I am writing this on the chrome book (sitting beside the pool). It appears Blogger has worked out its' problems.
We had supper at a riverside restaurant, walked a bit of the town (not exciting) then came back to hotel. Tonight we will go to the hotel bar to celebrate the first of our two wedding anniversary dates (our 34th anniversary).
The photos I took do not do justice to this marvelous canyon and at 200 pesos each (about $15) it was worth every peso (and we gave the driver/captain an great tip as he spotted all of the land animals we saw)
