Today almost all our day was spent using the hop on hop off boat ticket (which at a cost 150 Baht-$6 each, is a screaming hot deal)
We started about 0900 by getting on the MRT (underground metro) and then switching to BTS (the elevated train). It took us maybe 30 minutes to get to the appropriate pier
We got off at almost all the stops along the route with three stops making up the highlights for today.
Last nights blog had a photo of a temple beautifully lit up. Today we got to see it up close. Stunning is the best word to describe the beauty of this monument. Now called Wat Arun, the first temple on site was built over 300 years ago with the major spire renovation being done in the early 1800’s by Rama II.
We weren’t allowed to walk up higher than the first level (and truthfully, because the stairs are incredibly steep I am sure there has been horrible falls over the years).
In other stops we visited a flower wholesale market, as well as several other regular markets in different locations.
We ate some street food, returned to the same restaurant we had visited the first day (right by the Grand Palace), and had a beer or two as it was extremely hot.
Actually Caro is not here with me as I write this at 6 PM as she went to get herself a foot massage in a place near our hotel (she did that before as well). Our three day step total (so far ) is 57,000!
Late in our hop on hop off experience we got off at a location known for restaurants and shopping. We stumbled on to a fabulous bar in a quiet side street with wonderful ambiance. It was so wonderful we stopped for a beer. This was an unexpected pleasure.
Our final stop before finishing our day was at the high end shopping Centre called IconSiam (actually the whole building is called that). It is located in the lower section of the tallest building in Thailand that we took a photo of earlier this week. The place has a Porsche dealership in it and all the high end merchandise stores such as Versace, Dior ,Coach etc etc. The complex is five years old and massive.
It is now 7 PM and Caro has just returned from her massage and has been gushing about how wonderful it was!
We are checked in for our flight tomorrow to Hanoi,Vietnam. Fingers crossed that all goes well.
